Recently, the Oregon Senate Revenue committee voted on party lines to send a significant tax bill to the floor for a vote. The bill would, among other things, increase the small business tax rates that were the subject of a long negotiation several sessions back. This action was a surprise to everyone in the business lobby and business groups aren’t taking it well, with grassroots and social media efforts spinning up. The State does need to do something with the Oregon tax code in light of recent federal changes, but the bill that is moving went far beyond what was necessary.
Click here for the letter that the Oregon Home Builders Association (HBA Metro Portland is affiliated with and works closely with our State Association) and a bunch of other business groups signed onto. The hard work of pulling this together was done by Jenny Dressler with the Oregon Farm Bureau. More to come, but we wanted our Portland HBA members to be aware of the bill and the fact our lobbying team at OHBA is working with a broad coalition to oppose this.
