If you are building or developing land in Tigard, you are going to need to be aware of a key policy change identified by the HBA that will have an impact to the maximum number of buildable lots on your land.
The City of Tigard has undergone a process to update and revise their current development code. The proposed code changes are mostly administrative in nature, however some of the administrative updates require distinct policy changes or adoptions. On Monday, October 2, 2017, the Tigard Planning Commission held a public hearing regarding the adoption of these code changes. They then went before Tigard City Council the evening of November 14. Through work done by the HBA, a minor portion of the code was identified that set a process for measuring lot widths. It would have also drastically reduced the density in new development where street corners or cul-de-sacs would have existed. The HBA worked with city staff and local elected to help illuminate the issues around that method and was successful in having it struck from the code as it moves forward and to have a work group established to find a reasonable policy alternative. The HBA will continue to work with members through the second phase of their code update through 2018.
