PROs land on Santa’s NICE list!

PRO Santa House at Bridgeport Village 2011

Come out to Bridgeport Village to see the new Santa House built by the PROs

In case you haven’t seen it yet – the PRO Santa House at Bridgeport Village is a sight to behold and a testament to what can be accomplished through generosity and tenacity even in these difficult economic times.

The project is a truly collaborative effort of the Professional Remodelers Organization (PRO) with over 60 individuals from over 40 companies pitching in tens of thousands of dollars worth of materials and man-hours to bring this project to life. It took months of preparation and several incredibly generous donations of time, materials, and funds from companies like Contract Furnishings Mart, Powerhouse Construction, and many more, to create a structure that can be taken apart in panels, stored on pallets in the off season and re-erected onsite… plus it had to pass the permitting process through the city of Tualatin! With a lot of help from the members of the Professional Remodelers Organization, the Santa House is complete and open for visitors Monday through Saturday through Christmas Eve.

HBA members have access to group rates through Kaiser Permanente

On November 15, 2011, Kaiser Permanente (KP) presented medical and dental information to the Home Builders Association illustrating the quality and access of care available to members. Dr. Tom Syltebo spoke about the Health Connect technology system and how services have changes over the last two decades. As a former KP Primary Care Physician (PCP), Dr. Syltebo shared the daily routine of KP physicians which includes interacting with patients via telephone and email. Web based tools have changed healthcare delivery and Kaiser is on the forefront on this type of delivery.

Four dental plans (two PPO and two HMO) are also offered through KP allowing integrated care between medical and dental. If you are interested in more information about Kaiser Permanente plans and would like to get a quote, please contact Ernie Garcia at Montgomery & Graham at (503) 601-8306 or ernieg@mgbenefits.com.

Fall Home and Garden Show Sees Increased Traffic and Funds for Local Nonprofit

Home Builders Association and Molly’s Fund pleased with turnout and results

The Home Builders Association (HBA) of Metropolitan Portland announced today the success of the 2011 Fall Home and Garden Show held September 29 through October 2 at the Portland Expo Center . “This year’s traffic was up nearly 20% over fall 2010,” says Dave Nielsen, CEO of the HBA.  “Members reported they had numerous solid leads and that the show was successful for them.”

With 343 booths promoting household products to heating and cooling systems, landscapers to builders and remodelers, the audience was captivated by the diversity of ideas and options. One delight of the show was Serving Up Style, an exhibit of twelve dining environments created by local designers. These showcased dining rooms were a combination of modern, whimsical, and traditional design. The exhibit helped raise over $100,000 for Molly’s Fund, a local nonprofit that supports lupus awareness, education, and research for a cure. This was a 150% increase from funds raised in 2010 used in the fight against this debilitating disease.

The first place award for both the designer’s and people’s choice of Serving Up Style went to Portland interior designer Wendy O’Brien, an HBA member. Her design, incorporating a life-sized giraffe made from rusted metal, impressed the attendees as well as the fellow craftsmen at the show.
