Ahead of our endorsement process beginning, HBA staff continues to track races throughout the region as candidates continue to announce their plans to run.
Former Oregon Business Association President Ryan Deckert recently announced his candidacy for Washington County Chair, joining a race that already includes Tualatin Mayor Lou Ogden, Metro Councilor Kathryn Harrington, and Washington County Commissioner Bob Terry. Shabba Woodley, a community organizer who ran against Congresswoman Bonamici in 2016, also recently announced his candidacy for that seat. Portland Commissioner Dan Saltzman has received an early challenger in JoAnn Hardesty, former state legislator and current President of Portland’s NAACP. Additionally, environmental advocate Julia DeGraw has announced she will be running against City Commissioner Nick Fish. There have been some interesting updates in local state legislative races as well. Former Representative Shemia Fagan (Clackamas) announced she plans to challenge Senator Rod Monroe – largely due to his vote against renter protection ordinances. Additionally, Representative Ann Lininger (Lake Oswego) will be vacating her seat to serve as a judge in the Clackamas County Circuit Court. Her replacement will be appointed by a joint vote between the Multnomah and Clackamas County Commissions, and whoever is selected will have to run for election in 2018. HBA will continue to update members and as more candidates announce. Look for HBA’s race updates and candidate guide here and in the Industry Issues & News digital newsletter.
