HBA is working to better solicit, encourage and support business oriented candidates for races in advance of the 2018 election cycle through engagement of members and community leaders. We’ve compiled a list of open county commission and city council seats across the region.
As part of our campaign and election work, the HBA is currently tracking local races in the upcoming 2018 election cycle and we believe this can also be a useful tool for any of our members interested in running for public office. Here you’ll find a list of all of the open county commission and city council seats in the Portland Metro region.
As you’ve probably experienced, county commissioners and city councilors across the region have a lot of power when it comes to developing and building in their jurisdictions. Elected positions can be time consuming – but also very beneficial at creating more builder friendly jurisdictions. HBA is proud to have members serving in elected positions across the region, including Pat Kessi as a Scappoose City Councilor, Skip O’Neill as a Lake Oswego City Councilor, Jodi Bailey as Vice Chair of the Happy Valley Planning Commission, Ed Brockman on the Lake Oswego Planning Commission, Matt Wellner on the Washington County Planning Commission, and Ernie Platt is on the Sunrise Water Authority Board.
Every seat on our list is one that will be on the ballot in 2018 – some as early as the May primary. If running for office is something you’ve considered, take a look at your area and see if there’s any seat opening up where you live. If you are interested in running, contact James Adkins at email@example.com to have an early conversation about whether it’d be a good fit and to get connected to resources or trainings that might help.
Not ready for city council? HBA staff will be conducting similar research for other positions opening up – such as planning commission. Check back in the future to learn more about what opportunities there may be.
