With the addition of this new grading inspector, Washington County can now provide site grading and other structural related building inspections five days a week – instead of the one day a week they had the capacity for before.
For a couple years now, Washington County’s Planning & Development Services – Building Services grading and civil engineering team operated without a full time grading/structural inspector resulting in scaled down grading permit related site inspections and other impacts to their operations. Through meetings with members building in Washington County, HBA staff became familiar with the impact this was having on the timeliness and certainty of the building process and worked to emphasize the need for additional staff capacity.
In part due to HBA’s work, Washington County added a new structural/grading inspector, Jeff Thompson, and Building Services can now provide five-days a week site grading and other structural related building inspections. Jeff has 25+ years of construction experience and after three months of on the job training, he has acquired the necessary knowledge on site grading and storm water management, private road or driveway construction, site retaining walls and other structural/mechanical building inspections such as foundations/footings, structural framing and building final inspections. Jeff’s personal experience in home construction will help Building Services to focus on balance code enforcement and good customer service experience approach.
