Builders Ball Honorees

On November 20th the HBA membership gathered together in the James M. Goodrich hall for the Annual Builders Ball. Karl Finkelnburg of Sterling Savings Bank was installed as President, and immediate Past President Tim Breedlove was honored for his past year of leadership of the HBA. In addition to recognizing these exceptional gentlemen, five other outstanding members were honored with HBA Annual Member Awards, and Rudy Kadlub of Costa Pacific Homes was presented with the prestigious 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award.

2010 Lifetime Achievement Award: Rudy Kadlub
Rudy Kadlub of Costa Pacific Homes has been active in the HBA since the late 80’s.  When he came onto the building scene, his unique marketing ideas changed the way Portland area builders sold their homes.  He was a driving force in bring the Sale and Marketing council to HBA, and was the first to include an in-house sales and marketing team within his company as well as expand his advertising campaigns to TV and radio. His most current building projects, Orenco Station and Villebois are perfect examples of his position as a major player in getting the housing industry to approach land use planning and community building in a whole new way. These projects have been recipients of numerous awards for their innovative design, and have provided a model of residential development that others have begun to echo. Another substantial contribution Rudy has made to the industry is with his participation in the creation of the Home Builders Foundation. He served as president of the HBF in 1997, and has been a National director since 1993.  While no longer in a leadership position with the foundation, his commitment to this cause has never wavered. The HBA recognizes Rudy for his leadership and innovative ideas that he has brought to this industry, and thanks him for his continued support and involvement with the HBA and its Foundation.

Builder of the Year: Arbor Custom Homes
Arbor’s support over the last year to the HBA and HBF has been invaluable – many dollars and man hours were invested in the NW Natural Street of Dreams, along with their participation in bringing the Ideabox into the show. The supportive staff of Arbor has been active in their involvement of the HBF by participating on HBF committees and securing donations for both the Auction and Trap shoot.  In addition to getting behind the Founation’s major events, they have generously offered up the use of their building to host other fundraising events for the HBF.

Remodeler of the Year: Steve Klingerman
Steve Klingerman of THE Remodel Group was the recipient of this year’s remodeler of the year award.  As the next person to move into the PRO Chairman position in 2010, Steve is active in almost every PRO Committee meeting and event. He participated in the 2010 Tour of Remodeled Homes, both the Spring and Fall Home & Garden Shows, and participates in the PRO Marketing and Website Development Committee in addition to attending the PRO Leadership committee meetings.  The HBA and Professional Remodelers Organization are grateful for all the time and effort he has committed to the association, and they look forward to his leadership of PRO in 2011.

Associate of the Year: Bill Joseph
Bill Joseph of Dunn Carney Allen Higgins and Tongue, was chosen as this year’s Associate of the Year recipient. Bill has donated much of his time, services and talents to the HBA in 2010. Bill is the Chair of the PAC Committee, a member of the HBA Board of Directors and active on the GALA Committee. His legal knowledge and willingness to provide his counsel pro bono has been a great asset to the association. He is also a member of a band that has played at both After Hours and the Tom Hughes Fundraiser for the HBA. He has also been a supporter of the HBA’s All Member Lunches both as a sponsor and speaker, educating attendees on legal issues affecting the industry.

Trade Contractor of the Year: Mark McGregor
Mark McGregor of Clean it up Mark!, is the Trade Contractor of the Year for 2010. Mark has given the HBA many years of his involvement and contributions, but has really gone above and beyond this year in his support of the HBA. Mark has provided his services to the NW Natural Street of Dreams, all four of the HomeAid projects the Foundation has supported, and every Painting a Better tomorrow. His commitment to a green community is seen in his involvement of the BGC Council and in initiating, sponsoring and participating in the Cycle the Dream event.

Spike of the Year: Kimberly Wheeler

Last but not least, the HBA honored Kimberly Wheeler from Bank of the west with the Spike of the Year award, making it the fifth consecutive year she’s received this award. Kimberly recruited eleven members in 2010, bringing in 5 of those during the Membership Drive in October. In 2011 Kimberly will takes the helm as Membership Chair and the HBA looks forward to her leadership in area that she is very successful in, and appreciates all the work she’s put in to help build HBA membership.
